Unit Aim

The aim of this online engineering course unit is to introduce you to the principles of flight mechanics.

Flight mechanics is concerned with the forces that act on aircraft and the prediction of their performance. This unit begins by introducing you to the nomenclature used for aircraft and then progresses to explore the physics of aircraft flight both from a quantitative and qualitative perspective.

Learning Outcomes

During this unit, you will cover the below four learning outcomes:

LO1: Identify and explain the function of aircraft components together with an appreciation of the atmosphere and straight and level flight
LO2: Evaluate aircraft performance parameters during landing and take-off
LO3: Evaluate aircraft performance parameters during manoeuvres
LO4: Understand the principles of aircraft stability and control
