What units will I study?

The course is delivered as an online engineering course, consisting of two 20 credit units. The first unit is a recommended unit which is designed to deliver some fundamental learning required to progress onto the second, specific core unit.

Unit 1: Digital Engineering and Electronic Circuits (recommended*)

This unit enhances knowledge of digital engineering and electronic circuits, focusing on number systems, logic gates, amplifiers, oscillators, and testing methods. Students will develop skills in analysing digital systems, selecting suitable electronic devices, and employing various testing techniques, including computer simulations.

 

Unit 2: Communications, Networks & Signal Processing (core)

This unit introduces key concepts in communications, networks, and signal processing, covering modulation techniques, multiple access communications, transmission media, and coding methods. Students will also explore network fundamentals, reference models, Ethernet basics, and digital signal processing, including filter realisation and Fourier transforms.

* The recommended unit can be replaced by a different unit of your choice depending on your personal preference, or previous learning experience.
