International Graduate Diploma in Electrical and Electronic Engineering (Level 6)

The International Graduate Diploma in Electrical and Electronic Engineering (Level 6) comprises 360 credits:

1. The first 120 credits follow the syllabus of the Higher International Certificate in Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EduQual level 4).
2. A further 120 credits is then studied which follows the syllabus of the Higher International Diploma Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EduQual level 5).
3. ​The final 120 credits are at level 6.​

Level 4

Core Units

​Engineering Design and Ethics – to help you to develop your engineering design skills.

Engineering Maths – so that you develop your mathematical skills that you will need to succeed with the rest of your course.

Engineering Science – to give you a grounding in the science that underpins the engineering that you will study.

​Specialist Units

Electrical & Electronic Engineering Principles – This unit introduces you to properties and characteristics of electrical supplies and semiconductors. While the Electronic section focuses on Analogue and Digital signals, amplifiers and logic gates.

Electrical Machines – Here you begin to study simple robots, construction and applications of Transformers, Motors and Generators so that you can make informed decisions within the engineering context.

+1 Optional Unit

 You will have access to a range of optional units, so that you can study topics that interest you. These may even lie outside the field of electrical engineering such as mechanical, aerospace, or manufacturing engineering.

Level 5

Core Units

​Research Skills and Project Management  [60 credits] – This is a significant engineering project that you will undertake. We will firstly give you the tools and knowledge on how projects are managed. You will then deliver a project brief, and progress to lead a complex, independent, and engineering related research project.  In doing this, you will develop your ability to apply critical thinking skills to analyse engineering scenarios.

Engineering Management for Professionals – here you will learn the important tools and responsibilities of being in a management position within the engineering industry. You will learn skills such as Project Management and cost and risk analysis, But also the wider social and economic impacts of engineering companies.

Specialist Units

Digital Engineering and Electronic Circuits – In this unit you will focus on the number systems used in logic gates, characteristics and mechanisms of amplifiers and oscillators, testing methods and computer simulations.

Renewable Energy Electrical Systems where you  gain an understanding of the requirements between transducer and controllers, current energy demand, control techniques for renewable energy systems and how they are integrated into the grid. The unit will also explore environmental impacts and limitations of sustainable energy systems

Level 6

Core Units

Further Engineering Mathematics you will develop your mathematical skills further enabling you to gain a deeper understanding of how mathematics is used to model and analyse engineering problems.

Machine Learning & AI for Engineers Machine Learning and AI are transforming engineering by enabling automation, optimization, and data-driven decision-making. At Level 6, this course provides advanced knowledge and practical skills in applying AI techniques to engineering challenges. You’ll learn how to use machine learning for predictive modelling, system optimization, and intelligent control, preparing you for the future of engineering innovation.

Renewable Energy The transition to sustainable energy is shaping the future of engineering. At Level 6, this course provides advanced knowledge of renewable energy technologies, including solar, wind, hydro, and bioenergy. You’ll explore system design, energy storage, and integration challenges, equipping you with the skills to develop innovative solutions for a sustainable future.

​Specialist Units

​Instrumentation and Control Systems is a vital unit that explores the principles and applications of measurement and automation in engineering. You will learn about sensors, transducers, signal processing, and control strategies used in modern industrial and engineering systems. The unit covers both analogue and digital instrumentation, feedback and feedforward control, and the integration of control systems into real-world applications.

Communications, Networks & Signal Processing is a crucial unit that delves into the principles of modern communication systems, data transmission, and signal analysis. You will explore topics such as wireless and wired communication networks, modulation techniques and digital signal processing.
